Santiago grew up surrounded by people who worked hard their entire lives, and still didn't know how money worked. Not because they weren't smart. Because nobody had ever shown them.

His parents worked long hours, saved diligently, and trusted that their savings account was "doing its job." It wasn't. Inflation was quietly eroding their purchasing power year after year. A concept they'd never been introduced to. It wasn't anyone's fault. Financial literacy is simply a subject most people pick up by accident, after a setback, or never at all.

Santiago saw the same pattern with his classmates. Brilliant kids, top of their class in mathematics, history, sciences, who graduated brilliant in everything except the one subject they'd be using every single day of adult life. They were ready for the workplace, but not for the wage. Ready for university essays, but not for credit card agreements. The skill set was there. The financial vocabulary wasn't, and through no fault of their own, since real markets aren't part of most curricula yet.

That contradiction haunted him. So in 2024, between studying for his own exams, Santiago started building the tool he wished he'd had: a game that taught real investing through real-world events, in plain language, with stakes that felt real even when the money was virtual.

The first version was rough. Just stocks, bonds, and a few news headlines played out on a clunky prototype. But the moment he showed it to his peers, something happened. They didn't put it down. They asked when round two was coming. They started talking about actual market news at lunch.

That was the proof he needed. Financial literacy wasn't impossible to teach to teenagers. It had just never been taught the right way. Lectures and textbooks were the wrong format. Gameplay was the right format.

WealthCaptain grew from there. Today it's a four-tier game with sixteen asset classes, real news events from across the financial world, and a full classroom edition (WealthCaptain InvestmentTEAM) where entire schools can compete against each other. Five languages supported. Built single-handedly, from scratch, by a founder who believed financial literacy deserves to be as well-taught as any other subject, and that the right tool could finally make it so.

The vision is simple: every kid graduates knowing how money actually works. Every adult who missed it the first time gets a second chance. No jargon walls. No barriers to entry. Just honest, gamified financial literacy. Taught the way the next generation actually learns.

Age is the single biggest factor in any portfolio decision. It determines how much volatility you can afford to ride out before you need the money.

Anywhere from 14 (kids running the simulation in school) to 100+. The maths still works.

What does a typical week look like?

Income minus expenses tells us how much you can realistically invest. We use weekly figures because that's how most people get paid in Australia, but yearly is fine too if you do the maths.

1. Who we are and what this policy covers

WealthCaptain ("we", "us", "our") is an investing education product founded by Santiago Mugg Diaz. We operate two consumer-facing products: WealthCaptain (a solo and multiplayer trading simulation game) and WealthCaptain InvestmentTEAM (a classroom edition for schools). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information when you use either product or our marketing website.

This policy is governed by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the thirteen Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). If you have any questions about how we handle your information, contact us at privacy@wealthcaptain.com.au.

2. Information we collect

We collect only the minimum personal information needed to run the product. Specifically:

  • Account information: if you create an account, we store your chosen username and a hashed (one-way encrypted) password. We do not collect or require your real name, email address, date of birth, or address unless you choose to provide them.
  • Gameplay data: your tutorial progress, game history, portfolio decisions, quiz answers, and tier preferences. This is stored locally on your device in browser storage and is not transmitted to us unless you explicitly opt in to features that require it.
  • Usage analytics: aggregated, anonymous information about how the product is used (pages viewed, features used, time spent). This is collected via PostHog (see Section 9) and cannot be used to identify you personally.
  • For InvestmentTEAM (schools): when teachers create a class, we collect the class name, school name, the teacher's name and contact email, and rostered student first names plus a class-assigned identifier. We do not collect student email addresses, dates of birth, addresses, or any other directly identifying information without explicit parental consent.
  • Information you provide voluntarily: if you contact us via email or our support form, we collect what you choose to send.

3. How and why we use your information

We use the personal information we collect only for the following purposes:

  • To provide the WealthCaptain product to you and let you save and resume progress.
  • To run the InvestmentTEAM classroom features (tournaments, rosters, quiz results).
  • To improve the product through anonymised usage analytics.
  • To respond to support requests, complaints, or feedback you send us.
  • To comply with legal obligations under Australian law.

We do not use your information to target advertising at you, sell it to third parties, or train AI models. We do not run advertising in either product.

4. Disclosure to third parties

We do not disclose your personal information to third parties except in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers we rely on to run WealthCaptain: currently PostHog (analytics) and our hosting provider. These providers process limited data on our behalf, only for the purposes we direct, and are bound by data-processing agreements.
  • Where required by law: if compelled by a valid court order, warrant, or other legal process under Australian law.
  • To protect rights and safety: if we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to prevent harm to a person.

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.

5. Overseas data transfers

PostHog stores analytics data on servers in the European Union and the United States. By using WealthCaptain, you consent to your anonymised usage data being processed in those jurisdictions. PostHog is GDPR-compliant and we have a data processing agreement with them. If you would prefer your data not be processed overseas, you can opt out of analytics via the cookie banner or by emailing us.

6. Data security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access. Specifically:

  • Passwords are stored using one-way cryptographic hashing. We cannot recover them; if you forget your password you will need to reset it.
  • Data in transit is encrypted using HTTPS (TLS 1.2 or higher).
  • Account data is stored locally on your device in your browser. When we move to a server-based account system, data will be encrypted at rest.
  • We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described above. If you delete your account, your data is permanently removed within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

7. Data breach notification

WealthCaptain is subject to the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme under Part IIIC of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If we experience an eligible data breach — one that is likely to result in serious harm to one or more individuals — we will:

  • Notify the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as soon as practicable, and in any case within 30 days of becoming aware that a breach is likely eligible.
  • Notify affected individuals directly (by email where we hold one, or by prominent notice on this website where we do not) with a description of the breach, the kinds of information involved, and the steps we recommend to reduce risk.
  • Take immediate remedial action to contain the breach and prevent further exposure.

To report a suspected security vulnerability, email security@wealthcaptain.com.au. We will acknowledge your report within 48 hours.

8. Your rights: access, correction, deletion

Under the Australian Privacy Principles you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct information you believe is inaccurate, out-of-date, or incomplete.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated personal information.
  • Opt out of analytics tracking at any time via the cookie banner or by emailing us.
  • Lodge a complaint with us or with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (see Section 10).

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@wealthcaptain.com.au. We will respond within 30 days at no cost to you.

9. Information about minors

WealthCaptain is designed to be safe and appropriate for users of all ages, including minors. We apply the following additional protections for users we know or reasonably believe to be under 18:

  • We do not target advertising at minors and we do not run advertising in our products at all.
  • For InvestmentTEAM, all student accounts are created and managed by the teacher. We do not collect direct identifying information from students.
  • For users under 13 who attempt to create individual accounts on WealthCaptain, we require parental consent before any personal information is collected beyond what is needed to run the game.
  • Schools using InvestmentTEAM remain the controller of student data; we act as a processor on their behalf.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe we have collected information about your child without appropriate consent, contact us immediately at privacy@wealthcaptain.com.au and we will delete it within 7 days.

10. Cookies and analytics

We use the following:

  • Essential local storage: required to make the game work (tutorial progress, theme preference, language choice). These cannot be disabled without breaking the product.
  • Analytics (PostHog): anonymised usage data including pages viewed, features used, error reports, and timing. PostHog does not use cookies for tracking by default; it uses a randomly generated anonymous identifier stored in local storage. You can opt out of analytics by clicking "Decline analytics" in the banner on first visit, or by emailing us.

We do not use marketing cookies, advertising trackers, or cross-site tracking.

11. Complaints and the OAIC

If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles or mishandled your personal information, please first contact us at privacy@wealthcaptain.com.au. We will investigate and respond within 30 days.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or in the law. When we make material changes, we will update the "Effective date" at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify users in-product. Continued use of WealthCaptain after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

1. Acceptance of these terms

By using WealthCaptain, WealthCaptain InvestmentTEAM, or our marketing website (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

These Terms form a binding agreement between you and WealthCaptain. They should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

2. Who can use WealthCaptain

WealthCaptain is available to anyone aged 13 and over. Users under 13 may use the Service only with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian, or through a teacher-managed InvestmentTEAM classroom account.

You must have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract in your jurisdiction. If you are using the Service on behalf of a school, organisation, or other entity, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity to these Terms.

3. License to use the product

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use WealthCaptain for personal, educational, and non-commercial purposes. The core game is free of charge.

This license does not give you any ownership rights in the Service or any of its content.

4. Acceptable use and prohibited conduct

When using the Service, you agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in any way that violates these Terms or Australian law.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service, accounts, or systems.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, modify, or create derivative works of the Service except as expressly permitted by law.
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, scripts) to access or interact with the Service without our written permission.
  • Upload, post, or transmit malicious code, viruses, or content that infringes any third party's rights.
  • Harass, abuse, or threaten other users in multiplayer modes or classroom features.
  • Misrepresent your identity or use the Service to deceive others.
  • Bypass or interfere with any security features of the Service.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these rules without prior notice.

5. Accounts and security

If you create an account, you are responsible for keeping your password secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at support@wealthcaptain.com.au if you suspect unauthorised access.

We are not liable for losses arising from your failure to safeguard your account credentials.

6. InvestmentTEAM for schools

When a school uses WealthCaptain InvestmentTEAM:

  • The school is the controller of student personal information; we are a processor acting on the school's instructions.
  • The teacher is responsible for ensuring all relevant parental consents and school-policy approvals are in place before enrolling students.
  • The school agrees to use the Service only for educational purposes and to comply with all relevant child-safety and data-protection obligations.
  • We may publish aggregated, anonymised classroom statistics (such as tournament rankings) but will not identify individual students publicly without express consent.

7. Content and intellectual property

All software, designs, graphics, text, news content, lessons, glossary entries, and other materials in the Service are owned by WealthCaptain or licensed to us, and are protected by Australian and international intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, publish, or commercially exploit any part of the Service without our prior written permission. Teachers may use WealthCaptain materials in their classrooms for educational purposes consistent with this license.

Any feedback or suggestions you provide to us about the Service may be used by us without obligation or compensation.

8. No financial advice and disclaimer

WealthCaptain is an educational game, not a financial service. Nothing in the Service constitutes financial advice, investment advice, tax advice, or any recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any security, currency, commodity, derivative, or other financial instrument.

The simulated market data, news events, and lesson content are designed for learning and may not reflect current market conditions. Real-world investing involves risk, including loss of principal. Past performance does not guarantee future results.

Before making any real financial decision, consult a licensed financial adviser in your jurisdiction. In Australia, financial advisers must be authorised by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and listed on the Financial Adviser Register at moneysmart.gov.au.

9. Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee or right you have under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 to the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)) that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Where the Australian Consumer Law applies and our liability cannot be excluded, our liability is limited (at our option) to:

  • For goods: replacement, repair, or refund.
  • For services: re-supplying the service or refunding the cost of having the service re-supplied.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to loss of profits, loss of data, business interruption, or financial decisions made based on lessons or simulations in the game.

This limitation does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (Section 9) that cannot lawfully be limited.

11. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms or if we reasonably believe doing so is necessary to protect the Service or other users.

You may stop using the Service at any time. To delete your account and associated data, email privacy@wealthcaptain.com.au.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Effective date" above and, where appropriate, notify users in-product. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or your use of the Service is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales.

We are currently accepting expressions of interest from Australian schools for our 2026 InvestmentTEAM pilot programme. The first 10 schools join free for the full year. If you are an educator interested in participating, please email schools@wealthcaptain.com.au with your school name, the year level you teach, approximate class size, and a brief note on what financial-literacy outcomes you hope WealthCaptain will support.
