Financial literacy, finally

The skill that builds wealth, finally made simple.

WealthCaptain teaches you how markets actually work, through a game you'd want to play even if it wasn't educational. Real news, real decisions, real understanding. No textbook. No jargon walls. Just the financial confidence that compounds for life.

The Problem

Most adults can't answer this question.

"If you invest $1,000 today at 8% per year, what is it worth in 30 years?" The answer is over $10,000, more than a tenfold return, but most Australians have no idea. That's the magic of compounding, and it's the kind of question WealthCaptain was built to make obvious.

How it works

Three steps. No textbook required.

WealthCaptain puts you in the seat of an investor. Read the news, make a decision, see the consequence, exactly how real markets teach.

01
Read the news
Each round drops a real-world headline. A Fed rate decision, an earnings surprise, a geopolitical event. We translate the jargon into plain English so you understand what's actually happening.
02
Make your call
Allocate your wage across stocks, bonds, gold, crypto, whatever fits your thesis. Ten percent here, twenty there. The choice teaches you to think in terms of position sizing, not just predictions.
03
Watch the markets react
Lock in. Markets move. You see what worked and what didn't, and crucially, why. Each round ends with a "lesson of the round" tying outcomes to a real investing concept.
Who WealthCaptain is for

Whether you're 16 or 60, the rules are the same.

Building wealth takes the same fundamentals regardless of age. Start early if you can, start smart if you didn't. WealthCaptain is designed for both.

For students & young earners

Start with time on your side.

You don't need a big salary to build wealth. You need a head start, and the discipline most people learn 20 years too late.

  • $50 a fortnight from age 18 becomes $250,000 by age 50 at average market returns. Starting at 30 gets you a third of that. Time matters more than the amount.
  • Turn your first job into a financial foundation. Whether you're stacking shelves, doing hospitality, or hitting your first salary, WealthCaptain teaches you what to do with that money.
  • Beat the wealth gap before it forms. Most adults learn about money after a setback. You can learn before one.
  • Play instead of read. Twenty minutes of WealthCaptain beats twenty hours of YouTube tutorials. You learn by doing.
"I spent my whole university degree wishing someone had taught me what compound interest actually meant. WealthCaptain does in one round what my finance lecturer couldn't in a semester."
For working professionals

Your salary is not enough.

Inflation eats 3 to 5% of your savings every year. A pay rise barely keeps up. Investing is how you actually stay ahead, but most working adults were never taught how.

  • Inflation is a silent pay cut. $100,000 sitting in your savings account today buys roughly $74,000 worth of goods in 10 years. WealthCaptain teaches you what to do about it.
  • Super isn't enough on its own. Even on track, most Australians retire with less than they need. Investing alongside super is how you build a real margin of safety.
  • Risk-proof your wealth. Learn how to position a portfolio so a market crash doesn't undo a decade of saving. Hedging, diversification, asset allocation, all in plain English.
  • It's never too late to start. The best time was 20 years ago. The second-best time is this weekend. WealthCaptain is built so a 50-year-old picks it up as easily as a 16-year-old.
"I'd been working for fifteen years and still couldn't tell you what a bond actually was. Three weeks with WealthCaptain and I finally understand what my financial adviser is even talking about."

The built-in tutorial walks you through exactly what stocks, bonds, ETFs, and crypto actually are — in plain English, with no jargon. You'll learn why markets move, how to read news, and what diversification really means. It's nine quick steps, each building on the last. By the end you'll understand more than most adults.

  • What is investing and why it matters

  • How news events move markets
  • What a portfolio is and how to read one

Apply your knowledge. Build real instincts.

Each solo game puts you in charge of a real-world scenario. You're given a job with a wage, real news events happen every round, and your job is to react — buy, sell, hold — and grow your portfolio faster than the market. The game tracks your decisions and shows you exactly why each one worked or didn't. You'll learn more in 10 minutes of play than a semester of theory.

  • React to real-world news events each round
  • Build and manage a multi-asset portfolio
  • See your performance score and P&L after every round
  • Progress through four difficulty tiers as you improve
  • Compare your score on the global leaderboard

About

Built by someone who saw the gap.

Santiago Mugg Diaz

Founder, WealthCaptain. Santiago grew up watching peers graduate without knowing the difference between a stock and a bond, yet they'd spent years on quadratic equations they'd never use again.

He built WealthCaptain to fix that. The visionary behind a movement to put real financial literacy back in classrooms, before students enter a world that demands it.

SM Santiago Mugg Diaz, founder of WealthCaptain

The world won't pause to teach you investing.

Start where you are. The first round takes 60 seconds.

The Founder

Santiago Mugg Diaz

A visionary on a mission to make financial literacy as accessible as any subject, and far more enjoyable to learn.

SM Santiago Mugg Diaz, founder of WealthCaptain

Santiago grew up surrounded by people who worked hard their entire lives, and still didn't know how money worked. Not because they weren't smart. Because nobody had ever shown them.

His parents worked long hours, saved diligently, and trusted that their savings account was "doing its job." It wasn't. Inflation was quietly eroding their purchasing power year after year. A concept they'd never been introduced to. It wasn't anyone's fault. Financial literacy is simply a subject most people pick up by accident, after a setback, or never at all.

Santiago saw the same pattern with his classmates. Brilliant kids, top of their class in mathematics, history, sciences, who graduated brilliant in everything except the one subject they'd be using every single day of adult life. They were ready for the workplace, but not for the wage. Ready for university essays, but not for credit card agreements. The skill set was there. The financial vocabulary wasn't, and through no fault of their own, since real markets aren't part of most curricula yet.

"Knowing how to read a stock chart is one of the most useful skills you can carry through adulthood. It deserves a place alongside the great subjects, and it deserves to be taught in a way kids actually enjoy."

That contradiction haunted him. So in 2024, between studying for his own exams, Santiago started building the tool he wished he'd had: a game that taught real investing through real-world events, in plain language, with stakes that felt real even when the money was virtual.

The first version was rough. Just stocks, bonds, and a few news headlines played out on a clunky prototype. But the moment he showed it to his peers, something happened. They didn't put it down. They asked when round two was coming. They started talking about actual market news at lunch.

That was the proof he needed. Financial literacy wasn't impossible to teach to teenagers. It had just never been taught the right way. Lectures and textbooks were the wrong format. Gameplay was the right format.

WealthCaptain grew from there. Today it's a four-tier game with sixteen asset classes, real news events from across the financial world, and a full classroom edition (WealthCaptain InvestmentTEAM) where entire schools can compete against each other. Five languages supported. Built single-handedly, from scratch, by a founder who believed financial literacy deserves to be as well-taught as any other subject, and that the right tool could finally make it so.

The vision is simple: every kid graduates knowing how money actually works. Every adult who missed it the first time gets a second chance. No jargon walls. No barriers to entry. Just honest, gamified financial literacy. Taught the way the next generation actually learns.

Step 1 of 6
About you

How old are you?

Age is the single biggest factor in any portfolio decision. It determines how much volatility you can afford to ride out before you need the money.

Anywhere from 14 (kids running the simulation in school) to 100+. The maths still works.
Cashflow

What does a typical week look like?

Income minus expenses tells us how much you can realistically invest. We use weekly figures because that's how most people get paid in Australia, but yearly is fine too if you do the maths.

$
Net, take-home. After PAYG tax and any super deductions.
$
Rent, groceries, transport, bills, fun. Average it over the last 3 months.
Foundation check

The boring-but-critical stuff.

Before any investment recommendation can make sense, two things have to be true: you've cleared high-interest debt, and you've got an emergency fund. If you haven't, no portfolio in the world beats fixing those first.

$
Don't include your mortgage or HECS. Those are different beasts at low rates. Just credit cards, Afterpay, and personal loans charging 10%+ interest.
Time horizon

When do you need this money?

The longer you can leave it untouched, the more risk you can afford. Money you need next year can't be in volatile assets. Money you don't need for 25 years should be in them.

Risk tolerance

How would you actually react to a 30% crash?

Be honest. Most people overestimate their risk tolerance until they watch their balance drop in half. Pick the answer that matches what you'd really do, not what you think a tough investor would do.

Pick a number above. 1 = panic-sell. 5 = buy more during the crash.
